Congratulations to Canada’s Mens & Womens Eight Rowing Teams
Please join me in congratulating these 16 inspiring Canadians—Go Canada Go!
This morning I was thrilled to tune in and witness our Canadian Womens Eight Rowing Team capture the Olympic Silver in London—exactly 24 hours after our Mens Eight Rowing Team completed the same feat!
The men, I had the pleasure of seeing practice in Victoria B.C. before the games, showed incredible focus to come from behind in the last 250 metres to capture that medal—an illustration of true determination and belief in one another!
Our Womens eight displayed a valiant push in the last 1000 meters of the race (they actually recorded the fastest time in the second 1000 meters). Through their vigorous training, at Lake Fanshawe in London, O.N., and combined effort these Canadian Women fought their way to the podium to win silver.
I had the pleasure of rowing competitively in Mens Eight races in University and beyond but I can’t even imagine the level of excitement, pride and camaraderie that these teams felt. (Not to mention the rest of Canada that was surely cheering them on!)
These rowers did a remarkable job staying positive, believing in themselves and each other, and most importantly, they stayed committed and kept their eye on the prize…an Olympic Medal!
Ps. In case you’ve never tried rowing, I’d recommend testing the experience on the rowing machines in our clubs—it’s an incredible workout and one of the most efficient full-body cardio exercises there is.
